A Brief Bio

Most Reverend Ian C. Adams, STL, D.D., Bishop of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church

The Most Reverend Ian C. Adams, Presiding Bishop of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Riverside, California, USA. Born in Southern California in 1970, Bishop Ian grew up in various communities throughout Southern California, most especially in Riverside. He joined the Army at the age of eighteen and was honorably discharged four years later after serving initially as an electronics technician on the FAAR radar system and later training with the US Army Rangers and Special Forces. Bishop Ian Adams has worked in the medical field, in the computer field, as a production supervisor at a major Southern California newspaper, and as a Harley-Davidson mechanic. In keeping with his personal philosophy that most clergy should be tent-makers, based on the example of St. Paul from the Holy Scriptures, Bishop Adams presently works full time as a nationally certified automotive technician. Refusing to accept any financial remuneration from his service to the Church, Bishop Ian Adams prefers to support his ministry through his own work and diligent effort.

Bishop Ian was married in 1999, has one son, and enjoys a number of recreational activities including bicycling, hiking and camping, book and stamp collecting, and photography. Bishop Ian is a lifelong student of the martial arts as well. He began studying Shotokan Karate at the age of twelve and holds advanced ranks in several styles including Shotokan Karate, Yoshinkan Aikido, American Kenpo, and Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (ninjutsu).

Bishop Ian Adams was ordained a priest in 1997 and raised to the Episcopacy in 2011 and shares the apostolic lineage of the Roman Catholic Church and a number of the Old Catholic Churches.  He holds the Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STL) and an honorary Doctorate of Divinity (D.D.). He has taken the episcopal motto ob laborem militiae which means “service through work” and reflects his personal emphasis on work as a means of service to the Body of Christ as reflected in the writings of Saint JoseMaria Escriva.

My Personal Testimony

I am often asked how I ended up where I am today. How do you end up not just a Catholic priest, but a Bishop in the Independent Catholic movement? Especially by people who knew me growing up, or know my family. So I am preparing to share my testimony to the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the working of the Holy Spirit in my life.
