Hello and welcome to my tiny little corner of the web. My name is Ian and I’m probably not worth reading about in the greater scheme of things. But if you really must know something, what’s most important about me is that I was smart enough to marry a wonderful woman 25 years ago. We have a son who is married to an equally wonderful young lady and together they have given us just about the greatest gift anyone can receive – my grandson.

Alright, so there are a few other things. I grew up in Southern California, served in the Army from 89-93. I’ve worked a lot of different jobs since then including being an EMT, worked as a cowboy/cowhand/ranch hand, a CNA, a newspaper production manager, a Harley mechanic, automotive technician, and for the last decade I’ve worked in Healthcare Information Technology. Primarily I work in cybersecurity, but in a relatively small community hospital that means I do a bit of everything.
I am a Rabbi and member of the International Assembly for Netzarim Judaism.
I’m one of those odd people who loves to learn and really values education. I have an AAS in Information Tech, studied for a BS in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance at WGU. Before those I graduated from the Harley program at the Motorycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix, AZ. I’ve studied auto mechanics at UTI in Ontario, CA and at Riverside Community College, where I also studied Emergency Medicine.

I am an avid reader of books. Actually, it’s probably more honest to say that I am a bit fanatical about books. I love books. And video games, in fact, I probably like video games a bit too much. I also enjoy the outdoors, hiking and camping. I love sailing and pretty much anything nautical. I play a bad game of chess and an even worse one of Go. I was crazy fanatical about D&D when I was younger but no one around me right now plays so I stick with other games; my wife and kids always beat me at MTG and I’m terrible at Sudoku and crosswords – but do them anyway. I do not play Mahjong. I have no artistic talent at all, but you can occasionally find me drawing or playing guitar. Seriously, I’m pretty boring actually.
Oh yes, and I’m a bit of a martial artist. As a teenager I spent almost a decade studying Shotokan Karate under Sensei’s Ray Dalke and Ed Otis in Riverside, CA both at their main dojo and at UCR. I was also very fortunate to have also had the opportunity to train with Sensei’s Tsutomu Ohshima, Kenneth Funakoshi, and Randall Hassell. I stopped training when I entered the Army and never really picked it back up until just in the last few years. I have also studied Tai Chi under Jesse Tsao in San Diego. I now primarily study Shotokan, Krav Maga, Hikage-ryu, kobudo, kenjutsu and Iaijutsu, and Tai Chi.

Netzarim Judaism: The Quick Summary
Netzarim Judaism is a non-Talmudic form of Judaism. As with our Karaite brethren, we recognize Tanakh as the source of Halakhah and do not accept Talmud as authoritative or binding. We believe there have been prophets beyond what is recorded in the written Torah, that God continues to speak to us today, but that writings outside the Hebrew Bible are inspirational and guiding, not sources of law; they point us to understanding, but authentic prophecy never denies or contradicts Gods word in the Hebrew Bible. Netzarim Judaism holds that the individual is responsible for understanding and applying Jewish law in their own lives, guided by Torah and the individual conscious.
